History of the UIA
The Underwater Instructors Association (UIA) was
established to serve the needs of the Los Angeles County
Underwater Instructors. Through general membership, the
association was operated by a Board
of Directors composed of nine members. Seven
positions were elected yearly, while the remaining two
positions were awarded to the Outstanding Graduate of
the past UICC course and the Outstanding Instructor of
the past year.
The UIA operated in liaison with the Department of Parks
and Recreation's Underwater Unit until it was dismantled
in late 2008. Budget cuts and staffing issues
forced the department to abolish the UIA's charter in
order to outsource operational efforts for the
underwater programs formally run by the UIA. |
